DGA Strengthens Fight Against Illegal Gambling in 2025
The Danish Gambling Authority publishes its annual report to explain the country's legal gambling framework and provide an overview of the measures implemented to combat illegal gambling.
One of the regulator’s most notable achievements in 2025 was its continued action against unlicensed online gambling operators. During the year, the DGA secured court orders to block 334 websites offering illegal gambling services to Danish consumers.
To further strengthen its enforcement capabilities, the Authority signed a new cooperation agreement with Teleindustrien, the Danish Telecommunications Industry association. The agreement enables internet service providers to block mirror websites without requiring a new court order when a court has already determined that the original website is operating illegally.
According to the regulator, the initiative is expected to improve the speed and efficiency of enforcement actions against operators attempting to bypass previous blocking orders.
Partnerships Expand Enforcement Against Illegal Operators
Combating illegal gambling remains a collaborative effort involving both national and international partners.
Among the report's highlights is the Danish Gambling Authority's ongoing cooperation with Google. Through this partnership, the regulator can report illegal gambling applications available on Google Play, allowing Google to assess the reports and remove content that violates its policies.
The DGA also continues to play an active role within international regulatory networks.
Anders Dorph Continues to Lead GREF
Anders Dorph, Director of the Danish Gambling Authority, serves as Chair of the Gaming Regulators European Forum (GREF), where European regulators exchange intelligence on emerging illegal gambling trends and coordinate enforcement strategies.
The report notes that cooperation through GREF supports regulators in identifying new threats across Europe's illegal gambling market while strengthening cross-border regulatory coordination.
Responsible Gambling Education Reaches More Young People and Sports Clubs
Alongside enforcement measures, the Danish Gambling Authority continued expanding its responsible gambling awareness initiatives throughout 2025.
The regulator once again visited upper-secondary education institutions across Denmark, delivering educational presentations designed to increase awareness of gambling-related risks among young people.
Interest also grew significantly within the sports sector, with an increasing number of amateur and elite sports clubs requesting presentations focused on gambling issues.
100 Educational Presentations Delivered in 2025
The Authority's education team delivered 100 classroom presentations during the year, reflecting the regulator's continued investment in prevention alongside enforcement.
By combining regulatory action, industry cooperation and educational outreach, the Danish Gambling Authority continues to reinforce its strategy against illegal gambling while promoting a safer and more transparent regulated gambling market in Denmark.
