The new venue in Queens, overlooking the Aqueduct racetrack, features over 240 gaming tables, including blackjack, craps, baccarat, and roulette. The casino also boasts more than 2,500 slot machines, with several multimillion-dollar jackpots in play.
“New York City has never seen anything like what we are planning for April 28. Once the Gaming Commission completes final testing, live table games will be open and operating right here in Queens for the first time in New York City’s history. We are ready to welcome New Yorkers to this new and exciting experience,” said Robert DeSalvio, President of Genting Americas East, in a statement prior to the inauguration.
Resorts World now has more than 2,200 employees and has already doubled its workforce. Thousands more jobs are expected to be added as the integrated resort develops over the next three years. “This is a monumental moment for Resorts World New York City, and we are eager to share it with all New Yorkers.”
RWNYC also reported that the casino’s opening is pending final testing by the New York Gaming Commission this week.
Inaugural Ceremony
Hip-hop legend Nas joined Genting Chairman KT Lim at the opening ceremony and the ceremonial roll of the first dice. The event also featured community leaders, elected officials, and other artists.
New Jobs
The inauguration marks the end of an intensive hiring and training process that created 1,250 new jobs, including 950 new table game dealers, most of whom completed orientation earlier this week.
Currently, the company employs 2,200 people and expects its workforce to exceed 2,700 by summer, according to an RWNYC press release. In addition, the Resorts World Dealer School has already trained and hired more than 400 local residents at the Queens property, with another 500 expected to graduate by May.
